Defensive Systems in Volleyball
Defensive Systems in Volleyball are the ways in which a team must be positioned in order to defend the attacks of the opposing team.
Defensive System with Simple Block in Volleyball
-
The two other players at the net that do no take part in the block retreat to defend a dink or a ball rebounding from the opponent’s block.
-
The 3 players in the back court are positioned making a “V” shape to defend attacks that may come in the diagonal or parallel direction (depending on the block position)
Defensive System with Double Block in Volleyball
-
If the Block obstructs the diagonal direction, the player that is at the net and does not take part in the block must position him or herself to defend a potential dink and the players in the back must position themselves to defend potential line shots and cross court shots.
-
If the Block obstructs the parallel direction, the player that is in the back behind the block must position him or herself to defend a potential dink. The player that is at the net and does not take part in the Block must position him or herself to defend potential cut shots, along with another player in the back to defend potential cross court shots. The other player in the back must be positioned to defend a potential line shot.
Defensive System with Triple Block in Volleyball
-
If the Triple Block obstructs the middle of the net, the 3 players in the back position themselves making a “V” shape to defend potential cut shots and dinks.
-
If the Triple Block obstructs the sides of the net, the player that is behind the block positions him or herself to defend a potential dink, and the two other players position themselves to defend balls in the diagonal direction.
