What is the height of the Official Volleyball Net?
The official Volleyball Net is placed vertically directly above the center line.
Its top edge is positioned 2,43 m (7.97 ft) above the floor for men’s volleyball and 2,24 m (7.35 ft) for women’s volleyball.
How to Measure the Volleyball Net?
Its height is measured from the center of the court. The net heights above the side lines must be equal, and must not exceed the regulation height by more than 2 cm (0.8 in).
Volleyball Net Structure
The net is 1m (3.3ft) wide and 9,5 to 10m (31.2 ft to 32.8 ft) long (with additional 25 to 50 cm (10 in to 19.7 in) beyond the side bands). It is constituted of a square black mesh with sides measuring 10 cm (3.9 in).
Volleyball Net Bands
There is a 7 cm (2.8 in) wide horizontal band at the top of the net, which consists of a two-fold white canvas, sewn along the whole extension of the net. In each end of the band there is an opening through which passes a rope that fastens the band to the posts in order to keep the top part taut.
Inside that band, there is a flexible cable that fastens the net to the posts and keeps the top part taut.
In the bottom part of the net there is another horizontal band, 5 cm (2 in) wide, similar to the top band. Inside this band there is another hole through which passes a rope that fastens the net to the posts and keeps its bottom part taut.
Two white bands are stretched vertically with respect to the net and placed above each side line.
Each band is 5 cm (2 in) wide and 1 m (3.3 ft) and is considered as part of the net.
The Volleyball Net Antennae
The antennae are 1,8 m (5.9 ft) long flexible rods, 10mm (0.4 in) in diameter. They are made of fiberglass or similar material.
Each antenna is fastened tangent to the outer part of each side band. The antennae are placed at opposite ends of the net.
The tip of each antenna extends 80 cm (2.6 ft) above the top edge of net. The extension is marked with 10 cm stripes of constrasting color, red and white, preferably.
The antennae are considered as part of the net and delimit the lateral limits of the crossing space.
The Volleyball Net Posts
The posts that support the net are placed at a distance of 0,5 m (1.6 ft) to 1m (3.3 ft) to each side line. They are 2,55 m (8.4 ft) high and must be adjustable, preferably.
The posts that support the net are placed at a distance of 1m (3.3 ft) to the side lines and must be padded for every World and Official Competitions of the FIVB.
The posts are round and polished, and are fixed to the ground without any cables. There should not be any devices that might present danger or obstruction.
