What is the Libero In Volleyball?
The Libero in Volleyball is a specialist in serve reception and defense.
What is the role of the Libero in Volleyball?
The role of the Libero in Volleyball is to assist in the Serve Reception and in the Defense against attacks.
What are the Attributes of a Libero in Volleyball?
The Libero in Volleyball possesses the following attributes:
- Low to middle stature;
- Specialization in serve reception and defensive techniques, such as the Bump Pass;
- Specialization in defensive positioning.
What is the Libero’s Position in Volleyball?
The Libero in Volleyball can only occupy back court or back zone positions.
The Libero is not allowed to act in the attack zone positions or positions next to the net.
Libero Position during Serve Reception
During Serve Reception, the Libero may position him or herself in any of the back zone positions (5, 6 and 1).

Libero Position during Defense
In Volleyball, during Defense, the Libero must be always positioned in positions 5 or 6 in the back zone.
The Libero should not occupy position 1 in the back zone when defending the attacks of the opposing team because this position is always occupied by the team’s Setter or Opposite.
