HOW THE VOLLEYBALL 5×1 SYSTEM WORKS?
The Volleyball 5×1 tactical system is a very advanced, used by well-trained teams and professional teams.
The Volleyball 5×1 System is the most widely used tactical system in the world.
FEATURES OF THE VOLLEYBALL 5×1 SYSTEM
- All players are specialists in a particular role.
- There is 1 setter;
- 1 Opposite (attack specialist);
- 2 Outside Hitters (reception and attack specialists)
- 2 Middle blockers (fast attack, through the middle and block specialists)
- Used by very well trained and professional teams;
- Not suitable for beginner teams;
- Almost always uses a libero (reception and defense specialist)
POSITIONING IN A 5x1 SYSTEM
The positioning of players in the 5×1 System always follows the logic of diagonal relation of the players (see image above).
• The setter always is in a diagonal if the opposite;
• The middle blocker is always in a diagonal with another middle blocker, and in the back-row usually these players are replaced by the libero;
• The outside hitters are always in a diagonal to each other.
TEAM MOVEMENTS IN A 5×1 SYSTEM
In a 5×1 system, a team need to make complex changes of position after the service, giving the possibility to each player to perform in a zone where he is most specialized.
• In the 5×1 System the service is usually received by 3 players: the Libero and the 2 outside hitters.
• The setter and opposite should never participate in the reception system, so they should be isolated from it.
• The back-row middle blocker is usually replaced by the libero.

TEAM MOVEMENTS IN A Volleyball 5×1 SYSTEM
- The opposite is hidden of reception, behind the outside hitter;
- The outside hitter who is in the center of the net (position 3) goes back to position 5, to compose the reception; to make the pass along with the other Pointer and the Libero;
- The setter moves to the right side of the net (position 2);
- The middle blocker moves to the center of the net.
